Location: 925-939
Conner Street
Date Built: 1884
History of the Building:
The
three-unit H. M. Caylor Block was constructed in 1884.
Although it has lost its ground floor storefronts, the second story
displays fine brick detailing, a corbel table, and noteworthy letter
"C's" in the stonework, typical of Victorian Gothic style.
H.M. Caylor, a businessman and the owner
of the saw and planing mills, constructed this building for commercial
purposes. The first business in the building sold dry goods,
furniture, and groceries. Early 20th-century businesses included
Williams 5 & 10 Store, McMahon's Market, and a billiards hall.
