Location: 960-972
Logan Street
Date Built: 1909
History of the Building:
A
unique feature of this building is the antique rope-operated elevator
which is no longer in use today. Over the years, several hardware
stores were located in this building. The original tenants were
Carl O. Hare Welding and Machine Shop, Ora E. Imler (garage work and
agent for Buick Motor Co.), and J.M. Worthington Meats. An iron-clad
smokehouse was originally located behind the meat market, but it is long
since gone. Barker Hardware operated in this location for many years.
The stone label on
the upper façade clearly identifies this building and its date. The
Castors were prosperous farmers in Hamilton County.
The lower façade has been significantly altered. The
upper façade retains the corbelled brick cornice that modestly
referenced the Romanesque Style that was applied to commercial
buildings in this period, although this would have been getting late
for its popularity.
Current Use: Old
Picket Fence, John Culp, Attorney.
