Location: 996
Conner Street
Date Built: 1884
History of the Building:
The
front stepped gables of this narrow three-and-a-half story brick
building derive from German heritage and was a popular feature in late
19th century Noblesville. The elaborately detailed cast-iron
columns and the varied arched and rectangular window openings are
original to the building. Old photographs show that a covered
porch to the street used to exist. Only two of the original six
chimneys rise from the roofline of this hotel building.
Built in 1884, J. Frank Becker opened a
bakery, restaurant, and boarding house in the building. In 1905,
John Dietrich opened the Grand Hotel in the building, advertising the
hotel as having a "fireplace in every room."
